Introduction

Helping children learn the most necessary skills and knowledge that they need as they grow is one of the noblest jobs that an educator could ever take. Certainly, any educator taking the responsibilities of teaching young ones with the basic knowledge that they need for development is a fascinating challenge that would allow them in becoming a part of the establishment of the basic establishment of the useful qualities of the children, which they would be able to use as individuals when they grow older. According to the article “What do Preschoolers do”, children have a certain pattern of activities that they tend to be much fond of. These activities are as follows:

Listen to stories and to conversations
-Children are known too be very observant. At the age of two, they are already able to identify the events that are happening around them. By the time they reach the age of three, they are already able to learn the connection of the words that they hear and they are already beginning to comprehend to the conversations that they hear from older people. This development is something that could be enhanced both inside the house and in school. Their interaction with other children would also help them express themselves better through language and conversations with other children of their own age.

 

Talk to adults and to other children in complex sentences.
-They say what they hear. Young children’s thoughts are not merely based upon what they hear from their parents or from other people. Their imagination is at its peak use when a child reaches the age of three to four. The creation of make believe events come into the mind of a young learner, it could be noticed that the expression of their thoughts through language are becoming more and more complex as the years pass, and the brain of the child develops.

Master many rules of grammar
-the basic rules of correct grammatical arrangement of the words they use in sentences are already making sense during this stage of their development. It could be noted that the choice of words as well as linking verbs become visibly improving during their conversations with their peers.

Make up silly words and stories
-As pre-discussed earlier, children have strong imagination. Their ability to create an event that would entertain them during play would always be one of the key sources of language and interaction development among children. They do not only inculcate what they learn from their houses, or from their schools. The media display of several values and stories that affect their morals as children are indeed utilized by them as a source of fascinating ideas, which they share to their friends or family as well.

Use language to think, to share ideas and feelings, and to learn new things
-asking questions is the primary way by which children learn the things that they want to learn about. This is the reason why it is necessary to answer the questions asked by children no matter how silly they may sound like. The asking of questions denotes interest to learn. Hence, when a child’s questions are not answered, they at times loose their interest in actually learning anything at all, since they feel rejected when they are not answered. This reminder is dedicated both to the parents of the young learners and the caregiver or teachers of the children. Since interest is the primary factor that contributes to the learning development of the child, it is necessary to cultivate it by answering the questions of the children as they are presented to the knowledgeable adults.

Enjoy the same books repeatedly and look at new books
-Books are among the things that children are most fond of. It may not seem common to all, but it has been observed that the availability of books within the reach of the children helps them get interested in reading written materials. Children’s books appear to be much appealing to the eye because of the bright colors that are applied in printing them. Hence, making these reading materials available for the young learners would help them appreciate the importance of reading and would enhance their ability to understand picture stories.

Retell familiar stories to themselves and others
-It is normal for children to get excited once they learn new things. Their ability to retain a large part of the events that happen to them in their memory then helps them relate stories to others thus having their interest in interacting with other people. This exciting part of learning for children should be supported and never suppressed by older facilitators of learning.

Think about what the characters in a book might feel or do
-When watching animated films or reading picture stories, children tend to put themselves within the situation of the characters. The effect then is that their emotional quotient is developed. Based form their own experiences, they are able to cultivate comprehension on their emotional development. In terms of communication development, this factor of learning is very important. When a child knows how to show or tell what he feels inside, then he would be able to communicate well to others about what he wants to express as a sign of his emotions.

Draw and write with pencils, crayons, and markers
-Literacy should be enhanced by educators. However, learning to write in regular letters may be a bit pressure and quite boring for young learners. Hence, the usage of colored pens and markers could help steer up their enthusiasm in the said aspect of learning.

See print around them and watch adults read and write
-Children learn through whatever they see. Young learners tend to conclude that what adults do is right. Hence, when the adults around them help them out through trying to let them copy what older ones do, they are then motivated to act accordingly. Certainly, the shapes, the letters and other imprint creations that they see upon the papers where adults write into serve as pattern for them to follow. At some point, they may not be able to copy the exact characters of the written work. However, with constant practice and enjoyable way of learning, the literacy of the children could be improved well.

As it could be observed, these activities involve direct involvement of adult caregivers as facilitators of the major activities that they need to complete in the curriculum that is suggested in this paper. Certainly, these activities are designed to catch the attention of the students. As posted in the list above, it is essential that the curriculum that would be applied to students from ages three to four. It should be noticed that the activities would be attractive enough to the students to help them get motivated to learn more and perform well in their studies as early as their age are.

The Characteristics of the Lesson Plan

The plan that is suggested herein could be noticed to have three major characteristics as listed below:

a.       Visionary-based

Young children are inspired to learn when they see bright colors that are embedded on the activity plates. As it could be noted, major parts of the plan are inspired with the visionary activities [Card-object matching activity]. This is to help the children’s ability to relate colors with objects be enhanced. This way, their used of correct and appropriate language in several situations would be observed by the educators. Their skills in relating what they see with the correct calling terms for the said things would then be evaluated and thus enhanced well.

b.      Action –Based

It is important that the students are able realize what they are learning through the actions that they take to be able to complete the activities that they are engaging with. Since children are noted to be full of energy, it would help if some of their activities were energy-inspired. Aside from visionary enhancement, the use of energy in the within the application of the said activities will help the students enhance their skills better and understand their personal development as children at the simplest understanding that they could grasp.

c.       Interaction Inspired

It could be observed that the activities encourage the interaction of the students with others and with their facilitators. It also makes it a point that the students are able to interact with their parents at home, to ensure the involvement of their families with their personal development as a child. It is believed that the involvement of their close relatives, especially their parents would help the children grasp their lesson’s essence better and thus be able to apply the lessons later in their lives.

These characteristics are indeed essential in the learning process of young children. The usage of colorful items to help them learn language and the use of action-based activities to learn literacy would indeed help them have a better grasps of the lessons that they study. In fact, through these major processes of motivating the learning interest of children, they are even more moved to interact with other people to be able to learn more.

How Significant are the Lessons to Learning

To be able to encourage leaning to young children, it should be observed by facilitators that the interest of the young learners are captured by the lessons. It is always a primary part of learning that the interest of the student should be given attention first before the actual class lessons start.

It has been observed that teachers who try to steer up the interest of their students through the use of several energy-based and interaction enhancing activities, the students become less stressed in their studies. Thus, they see learning as a fun way of spending their day. The more they enjoy, the more they would be able to apply the lessons that they are supposed to learn from school. As it has been explained earlier, the colors and objects are used to be able to attract the attention of the children. It is normal enough that the books and other materials used to teach children would also be embedded with bright colors that would not only help them in the improvement of their language but would also steer up their interest in arts and literacy.

The lessons that are prepared for the class in this educational management paper thus aims to help both the educators and the parents of the children become a part of the learning development of children in and out of their classrooms. The interaction that they would have with their educators and parents as well would help them realize the good effects of communication, language and literacy on the part of their individual progress as a person.

Yes, children who are guided well by their parents and educators, young learners who gain the right motivation in grasping the lessons that they ought to receive from school are known to have better chances of having a good future and relationship with other people in the society, as they grow older.

Conclusion

Learning starts within the four walls of the house. Legislative acts have been made to make sure that children are given ample time and attention in schools, especially public ones; however, it could not be denied that the foundation for learning for young children begins with the parents as the educators of their young ones. As the learning and teaching interaction is based on family love, the children learn so much, more than just language and literacy. They learn to communicate what they feel and thus they are able to relate with the environment that they are living with.

As commented by an article entitled: “Parents: Child’s First teachers”:

Early learning is not limited to emotions. The intellectual potential of a child in the first three years of its life are much greater than most persons realize. Learning one language is difficult for adults, but the babe reared in a family where two languages are spoken learns both at the same time. The richer the learning environment is for the small child the faster he learns; he soaks up information like a sponge. (1989)

This truth does not only apply to emotional or intellectual development, or the ability of the child to use his reasoning. It also attests to the fact that parents have an important role in helping their children with their language, their literacy and their communication skills. As the article further continues:

“One of the great weaknesses of high-school graduates, and some college graduates, is reading. “Reading Shouldn’t Wait for School,” one article is headlined. Its opening paragraph reads: “How well a child does in school depends, in large measure, on how well he can read. And how well he can read depends, in larger measure than is usually acknowledged, on how skillfully his family has encouraged him to read.” Some of the suggestions of the article are: Read to your child as he is cuddled in a warm relationship, starting no later than his first birthday, and do it daily. Keep picture books handy for his use. Make bedtime reading a habit—it relaxes him, helps him to unwind and ends his day in comforting closeness with his parent. As he learns the alphabet and words and can read simple sentences himself, provide suitable material for him. But you continue reading more advanced material, beyond his reading skill but within his ability to comprehend.” (1989)

Later on, these children are introduced to other people outside the territories of the house. Hence, with the foundation of learning and personal development that they are able to incur from their families, they are then ready to interact with other people. This then denotes that the educators and the learning institutions only stand up as a second source of their basic knowledge. It is important for a child to know that both his and her parents and teachers are giving him the support and encouragement to learn. The interest that is steered up within a child is then sourced out form having a good motivation from the people living around him.

Certainly, the government is providing a guideline on how the public educators should attend to the needs of the children. Living in such a busy society is not an easy task for parents. This is the main reason why children who are not given enough time by their parents are sent to several educational institutes. The educators then become both the teacher and the caregiver for the children. This is where the love for children enters the scene. If an educator aims to provide the students with the best education that is available for them, he or she must first be able to establish his love for his students treating them like his own children. By doing so, motivating and steering up the interest of the child would not be that hard to inculcate within the learning curriculums.

However, the responsibility of the educator does not end there. Educators must also make it sure that the parents are able to help their children with their studies upon returning home, even by sharing just a bit of their time with their  young ones through the homework that are given out to students at the end of the day. Yes, educators of young children handle great responsibilities not only on the learning process of their students but also on the family structure of their learners.
