The Adventure of Discovering Myself Essay

“Find out who you are and do it on purpose. ” Is my favorite quote by country singer Dolly Parton. The “journey to be oneself” seems to be the riskiest of all journeys because we don’t know who we really are and most of us are too scared to truly find out who we are. The risk that lies ahead as I embark on my college career is basically taking my own risks in general. The “Adventure” if discovering and becoming myself, seems to be one of my top reasons on why I want to continue studying. Life is a big journey and every big event is an adventure.

The “journey to be oneself” seems to be the riskiest of all journeys is because we don’t know who we really are and most of us are too scared to truly find out who we are. They say that when we judge others it is because we have the same defectiveness, but are too naive or to blind to notice it. This would be an excellent explanation to why many people can’t sit in a room by themselves quietly or meditating without them freaking out. It is the silence that scares us the most because that is when we ask ourselves questions about ourselves and we’re not sure if we feel confident to be honest.

The journey to be oneself seems to be the trickiest because what if you don’t like yourself? Sound ridiculous but we are in an era where if you don’t look a certain way, you may not be worth knowing. Many are used to having parent take the risks for them but now as I embark college, I have to take risks all on my own. It is a matter between standing tall or my face falling flat on the ground. The biggest risk I am taking right now as I embark my college career is choosing the right college for me. I’ve always lived by the saying: “Don’t let the school choose you, you have to choose the school”. But I never stopped and thought about which school I want to choose and which is most willing to help me continue my education as a Catholic student.

This maybe the biggest risk for the moment, but I know that “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. ”- Philippians 4:13. I have trust in God and in myself that the risk I take are eventually going to help me in life. The “Adventure” of discovering and becoming myself, seems to be one of my top reasons on why I want to continue studying. The adventure of discovering myself seems to excite me as I sit here typing this essay. I have big dreams and wishes in my life and I’m just excited to know whether or not I make it.

But I also know that the school I attend will help me achieve those dreams or just stand there as an obstacle. The “adventure” of discovering and becoming myself, I just can’t get it out of my head, It seems as if it is a thousand years away, but in reality my adventure starts in less than a year and I can’t wait to start packing my pillow, blanket, rosary, and bible to start my adventure in finally meeting Diana Padilla. So, yes indeed discovering myself is why I want to continue studying and grow as a person.

In Conclusion, the “journey to be oneself” seems to be the riskiest of all journeys because we don’t know who we really are and most of us are too scared to truly find out who we are. The risk that lies ahead as I embark on my college career is basically taking my own risks in general.
